TEF-Health – Testing and Experimentation Facility for Health AI and Robotics
TEF Health is a European Commission initiative aimed at accelerating the certification and testing of artificial intelligence- and robotics-based technologies in the health sector.
About
TEF-Health is a European Testing and Experimentation Facility (TEF), in which HCP is a partner.
The TEF-Health – Testing and Experimentation Facility for Health AI and Robotics – aims to promote personalised medicine and citizen-centred care, enhancing the efficiency, resilience, and sustainability of health systems through the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, while also reducing inequalities in healthcare provision across Europe. The ultimate goal of the project is to develop solutions that, starting from a minimum Technology Readiness Level (TRL) of 4, are able to reach a TRL between levels 5 and 9.
As part of this project, TEF structures (Testing and Experimentation Facilities) will be created to serve as a bridge between companies and hospitals. In addition to providing environments for testing and demonstrating solutions, the TEFs will enable ethical and data protection reviews of company projects, as well as supporting incubation activities and market analyses.
The European project brings together a consortium of 51 organisations from 10 countries, led by the Charité University Hospital in Berlin. The Portuguese TEF-Health consortium is led by Instituto Pedro Nunes and includes five additional partners.
