COBIOE - Growing connection for Bio Ecosystems
The COBIOE project (growing COnection for BIO Ecosystems) was the result of a European consortium composed of five health clusters with the aim of bringing together the main stakeholders in the bioproduction sector to establish a cross-border value chain.
About
The COBIOE project aimed to strengthen the competitiveness of the European biomanufacturing sector, with the support of the European Commission and Member States. The project promoted the interconnection of innovation ecosystems to support the Industry 4.0 transition in the deeptech biopharmaceutical sector, through the sharing of skills, information, and opportunities, contributing to the convergence of a common, inclusive, and integrated European strategy for biomanufacturing.
COBIOE focused on the bioproduction sector, covering the development of small molecules, biologics, medicines, and innovative therapeutics, including gene and cell therapies, as well as high-tech drugs based on cellular and molecular biology. Its applications spanned multiple areas of healthcare, including oncology, immunology, virology, and rare diseases.
As a main outcome, the project developed a dynamic digital platform, designed as a reference point for stakeholders across the entire value chain — from research and development, advanced therapies, and clinical validation, to biomanufacturing and market access — promoting the integration of multiple European bioproduction ecosystems into transnational value chains.
