SoT - Surgery on Time

Surgery on Time (SOT) is a decision support tool that aims to improve the OR schedule by providing automatic scheduling of surgical patients.
Surgery on Time (SOT) is a decision support tool that aims to improve the OR schedule by providing automatic scheduling of surgical patients. SOT was developed in co-creation with the end users, the health professionals (hospital managers and operating room and surgical department directors). The involvement and contribution of these professionals was fundamental to ensuring the adoption of this tool and to provide a tailored solution that meets the specific needs for efficient surgical scheduling. SOT is composed of two components: (1) a Machine Learning (ML) model, to predict the OR time for each patient, and (2) an optimization algorithm based on pre-defined rules to provide a scheduling suggestion to allocate the patients on the waiting list automatically. By implementing the ML model, SOT can reach more accurate OR time predictions, when compared to standard hospital methods, since this prediction is based on historical available data and variables from patients, surgical team characteristics, and surgical procedures
